The Noon Countdown: Dearly Departed

18 – Number of days remaining until the 2015-16 season. But it’s also…

…the combined number of power-play goals scored in 2014-15 by players who will pull on another team’s sweater in the upcoming season. That accounts for just under a third of the team’s total power-play output (60), and just seven goals shy of Alex Ovechkin‘s team-leading 25 power-play tallies.

Of the players who have since departed, Troy Brouwer led the way with eight power-play goals (second on the team behind Ovechkin), followed closely behind by Joel Ward‘s six. Half of Curtis Glencross‘s four goals as a Cap were scored with the extra man, while Eric Fehr and Mike Green each chipped in with one. Those five players also accounted for 28 assists on the team’s top-ranked power play last year.
