Capitals Unveil New Third Jerseys

After a couple of slow weeks, the next few days are chock full of hockey-esque activities, with tomorrow night’s Awards in Las Vegas leading into the NHL Draft this weekend in Sunrise, Florida.

But before all of that can happen, it’s time for the most important news of the summer: what will the well-dressed Caps fan be wearing next season?

Yes, it’s time for a new third jersey! And for those of you who like nostalgia, you’re in luck… because this one’s a pure throwback, modeled by the lovely and talented Alex Ovechkin:

Per the team:

ARLINGTON, VA. – The Washington Capitals will wear a third jersey modeled after the team’s original red jersey for select home games during the 2015-16 season, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

The primary color for the uniform is red and closely resembles the team’s jersey worn from 1974-75 through 1994-95. The original Capitals wordmark is featured on the front of the jersey with six stars above it and five stars beneath the numbers on each sleeve. The Capitals will wear blue pants and red helmets with their third jerseys. The new third jersey will replace the white third jersey the Capitals wore from 2011-12 to 2014-15.

The Capitals’ third jerseys will be available in October at the Verizon Center Team Store, Kettler Capitals Iceplex Team Store and online at shop.NHL.com.

So there you have it – a new jersey, to replace the (cursed?) white jerseys that dominated the alternate landscape since the 2011 Winter Classic, and another nice nod to the franchise’s colorful past.
