472Peter Bondra‘s franchise mark for most career goals, one more than Alex Ovechkin‘s current total.

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored two goals on Sunday against New York, marking his 470th and 471st career NHL goals. Ovechkin now sits two goals shy of passing Peter Bondra (472) for first place on the Capitals franchise goals list. The Moscow native holds the Capitals franchise record in points (889), power-play goals (173), game-winning goals (80), overtime goals (15), shots (3,805) and multi-goal games (99). Bondra scored 472 goals in 961 career games with Washington. Ovechkin has scored 471 goals in 754 games with the Capitals. The 6’3″, 235-pound left wing leads the NHL with 49 goals this season and is one goal shy from becoming the sixth player in NHL history to record six 50-goal seasons, joining Mike Bossy (9), Wayne Gretzky (9), Marcel Dionne (6), Guy Lafleur (6) and Mario Lemieux (6). Ovechkin and the Capitals host the Carolina Hurricanes at Verizon Center tonight.
