The Noon Number: Getting Late Early

1 – Win for the Capitals this year when they yield the first goal (that November 7 victory in Chicago), the fewest and lowest percentage in the League. The Caps have gone 0-10-4 in the interim when their opponents open the scoring, including an 0-4-1 mark during the current 1-4-2 slide.

Since the start of the 1997-98 season, the fewest wins in a season when trailing first is three, accomplished by the Islanders and Sharks in 1998-99, Panthers in 2001-02 and Penguins in 2005-2006 (nope, it didn’t even happen in the abbreviated 2013 season – the Panthers and Flames each managed four).
