Coming off of a gritty, shorthanded win over Buffalo, the Caps headed into Raleigh riding a nine-game winning streak and looking to round out 2015 with one more win. Unfortunately the depleted lineup in the second of back-to-back games was never quite able to get any momentum going and eventually fell for the first time in three weeks.
Thursday night's Plus/Minus:
- Plus: Philipp Grubauer. The Caps once again gave up a boatload of shots to the Hurricanes, but Grubauer was very solid in net, turning aside 33 of the 36 he faced and almost robbing Eric Staal of his go-ahead goal in the third period.
- Minus: The streak coming to an end. You knew it would happen eventually, but to have it happen this way, to this team full of Staals, makes it a little tough to swallow.
And now, this...
