The Noon Number: Pump Up the Volume

39.5 – The percentage of the Capitals’ total shots on goal that came off of the stick of Alex Ovechkin in last night’s 1-0 loss to Detroit. Ovechkin fired 15 of the 38 shots the Caps got on Wings’ netminder Petr Mrazek, tying his career high for a single game (set way back on October 7, 2006). It was also the 41st time in his career in which he’s registered double-digits in shots on goal.

All told, Ovechkin had 18 shot attempts on the night – which amazingly enough didn’t come close to his personal best. His highest iCF total to date is 24, which he accomplished twice during the 2008-09 season, and he’s hit at least 20 shot attempts 10 different times over the course of his career.

Alas, the grand total of shots that hit the back of the net last night was… zero.
