0 – Number of five-on-five goals off-season acquisitions Brooks Orpik and Matt Niskanen have between them so far this season, making them the only goal-less teammates in the League to have each played more than 550 minutes at five-a-side.
Orpik has played 661:40 at fives and has registered 27 shots on goal; at his career five-on-five shooting percentage of 2.7% coming into this season, and his .02 career goals-per-game average, it’s not really any surprise that he has yet to light the lamp. Niskanen, on the other hand, has been a bit unlucky (though he does have a pair of power-play tallies). In 635:35, he’s put 31 shots on goal; at a career 4.8% shooting percentage, we’d expect one by now (or two, if we were going by his 6.7% rate over the past two seasons).
While we wait for even-strength goals from a pair of former Pens blueliners… thank goodness for Karl Alzner.
