Counting down the days until the 2014-15 season with a look at some even-strength excellence

USA TODAY Sports

30 - Number of days remaining until the Caps open the 2014-15 season. But it's also...

...the number of combined goals scored at even strength by Joel Ward and Jason Chimera in 2013-14. That total is just slightly ahead of the team-leading 27 even-strength tallies Alex Ovechkin put up by himself, with Ward a distant second at 16 and Chimera right behind him with 14.

Interestingly enough, while Ward and Chimera ranked second and third, respectively, on the team in even-strength tallies last year, they weren't close to the top in even-strength ice time. In fact, among the team's forwards who played at least 40 games, they were fifth and sixth... from the bottom in that category, both clocking in under 13 minutes per night.
