Counting down the days until the 2014-15 season with a look at the team's record in close games

21 - Number of days remaining until the Caps open the 2014-15 season. But it's also...

...the number of one-goal wins for the Caps in 2013-14 (including five of their last nine wins of the season), tied for eighth in the League. 45 of their 82 games last year were one-goal affairs, with ten of those ending in a regulation loss and another 14 in overtime or the shootout, a win percentage just under 47% - an almost 10% decrease from the previous season, when they won 13 of their 23 one-goal games.

Those 45 one-goal games were also the fourth-most, with only Winnipeg (46), Calgary (49) and New Jersey (50) involved in more tight contests.
