    • Team Russia loafed a bit in the first period, got yelled at by Coach Znarok in the first intermission, and turned on the jets and the cannonfire and defeated Kazakhstan 7-2Alex Ovechkin had two assists and the team now waits to see if Evgeny Malkin will join them. Their next game is on Saturday vs. Latvia.
    • Fun stat - Russia's team SH% in this tournament is 18.8.
    • Team Germany was edged 3-2 by SwitzerlandPhilipp Grubauer observed the game from the press box. Germany will take on Belarus on Saturday.
    • The Caps' Canadians will face Denmark today, and Belarus gets the Finns.
