In a tilt that featured two of the hottest teams in the NHL, with the New York Rangers having won six straight, and the Washington Capitals having earned points in eight consecutive match-ups, this promised to be a great game… and then failed to deliver on that promise. The Capitals were listless all evening, and the Rangers capitalized when they could, securing a 4-2 victory and jumping the Caps in the standings. Look for our full recap later No full recap tonight, so go drink and be merry, but first, Tuesday night’s Plus/Minus:

Plus/Minus:

  • Plus: Well, the game was something of a dud, so let’s take solace in the fact that Nate Schmidt is back in the lineup after quick stint in the press box, and Andre Burakovsky is back on the ice (and wearing a red Caps sweater). These two belong in the lineup (though, in the case of Bura, probably not at the expense of Tom Wilson), and it’s good to see the man behind the bench get the lineup back in the stratosphere of being optimal.
  • Minus: The first two periods. Below visualized are the Caps’ shot attempts during the first two periods. That’s not going to get it done. Especially with a guy like Lundqvist in net. Obviously, the boys in red picked it up during the third, but too little too late is a cliche no one’s interested in using too often.

And now, this…

A striking correlation between the quality of jersey, and the quality of play from that team that’ll soon wear it…
