The Noon Number: Flipping the Script on Quick Strikes

10 – Number of times through 27 games this season that the Capitals have scored a goal within two minutes after an opponent’s tally (with two coming in last night’s win), equaling the number of times they accomplished that feat in 82 games last season.

This uptick in rapid response goals runs quite contrary to one of last season’s big story lines, which saw the Caps yield an NHL record 29 such goals, a number the team has cut to just five so far in 2013-14.

And yes, the “ten” includes Alex Ovechkin‘s empty net buzzer beater last night, scored three seconds after Tampa’s last goal.
