The Caps headed into Denver needing a win to make their quick three-game road swing a success, and looking to build on the momentum of an overtime victory over the Coyotes earlier this week. To do so, they needed their top line to be their top line – and tonight they were, with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom leading their team to victory.

Plus/Minus:

  • Plus: The top line. Nicklas Backstrom’s goal opened the scoring for the evening, a nice shot off a beautiful cross-ice pass from Alex Ovechkin, and Ovechkin finished off the festivities with the go-ahead goal on a ridiculous play late in the third period. Nice to see the big boys back on the board, after a three-game drought.
  • Minus: Nate Schmidt and Mike Green. The Caps’ second defensive pairing has been pretty solid over the course of the season so far, but tonight they were anything but, on the ice for – and having a big hand in – both Colorado goals.
