The Noon Number: Shots Fired (But Not Too Many)

A look at a relatively stingy start to the season

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

53 - Number of shots on goal the Capitals have allowed in two games so far this season, yielding 24 to Montreal and 29 to Boston. Of note, only seven times over the past two seasons were the Caps able to hold opponents to fewer than 30 shots on goal in back-to-back games (with four of those coming in Adam Oates's first 11 games behind the Caps' bench), and only 10 times were they able to hold opponents to fewer than 54 shots in consecutive games.
