The Noon Number: Depth Defying Feats

36.6 – Percentage of 2013-14 Capitals goals on which Alex Ovechkin has a point, the same percentage as Caps goals on which Nicklas Backstrom has figured in the scoring, putting the pair at fifth in the League as of Monday (per Extra Skater). Only Sidney Crosby (44.4%), John Tavares (43.4%), Jiri Hudler (37.0%) and Phil Kessel (36.8%) ranked higher than the Caps’ dynamic duo, and while the story is a bit different at even-strength (Mikhail Grabovski actually leads the team, notching a point on 27.2% of the team’s five-on-five markers, which is middle-of-the-pack), the extent to which the Caps have leaned on their top-two scorers is certainly noteworthy… and has been noted here and here, among other places.
