41.9 – The average Fenwick percentage in close situations at five-on-five (a.k.a. pretty much the best predictor of future success that we’ve got) for the Toronto Maple Leafs (42.3%) and the Buffalo Sabres (41.5%), which ranks them 29th and 30th, respectively, in the League in that metric.
The Leafs and Sabres also appear next to one another on the Caps’ slate of upcoming games, with Toronto visiting Verizon Center tonight and Buffalo coming to town for a Sunday matinee. Needless to say, it would behoove Washington to take advantage of two of the NHL’s weaker teams… especially with two of the circuit’s top teams up next on the schedule in San Jose and Pittsburgh.
