Your savory breakfast links:

  • A busy first day of free agency is in the books... or at least a busy first day for the rest of the League, as the Caps were noticeably quiet on Day 1. [CBS DC, DSP, ESPN]
  • As they sat on the sidelines, their division rivals both old and new were scouring the shelves of the free agent market. [WaPo, CSNW]
  • They weren't the only active ones, as a few old friends are headed for new homes:
  • A lot of players may have been on the move yesterday, but not to worry - there are still some free agent options left... [Dump 'n Chase, NHL.com]
  • ...including one particularly tantalizing (and extremely shy and soft-spoken) option who was recently set free by the Leafs. [CSNW, Caps Outsider, RLS, THW]
  • Down on the farm:
    • The Bears have rounded out their new coaching staff, adding assistant coach Ryan Mougenel to the crew... [Stuccio, Pennlive (and again), LDNews, SHOE]
    • ...and have dipped their toe into the free agent market, signing forward Jamie Johnson.
    • Meanwhile up in Reading, the Royals have re-signed captain and 2013 leading scorer Yannick Tifu. [ECHL]
  • 2013 draft pick Andre Burakovsky seemed thrilled to be selected by the Caps last Sunday; he doesn't seem to be quite as thrilled about the results of Wednesday's CHL draft. [RMNB]
  • Thanks to the generosity of assorted NHL owners, players and brass, the first ice hockey tournament in the annual Maccabiah Games will go forward as planned. Mazel Tov! [JPost]
  • Remember Viktor Kozlov? Alex Ovechkin certainly does, and attended the lanky former Cap's recent nuptials in Russia. N'aww, the bromance lives on. [RMNB]
  • Speaking of Ovechkin, creepy... or awesome? Let's go with "yes". [@NikeHockey]
