Thursday Caps Clips

Your savory breakfast links:

  • Congrats are in order for Caps’ captain Alex Ovechkin as his remarkable season wrapped up even more remarkably with the NHL’s announcement that the voters of the Professional Hockey Writers Association named him to the First Team All-Star as a right wing, and to the Second Team All-Star as a left wing. Wait. What? [NHL.com]
    • How could this have happened? Ev’ryone knew that Ovechkin switched sides this season, surely. The PHWA and observers were quick to name their nominees for First Team All-Outrage. [WaPo, Puck Daddy (and again), SI, Globe and Mail, USA Today]
    • It’s a mistake anyone could make! Even the League’s own website labels #8 as a left win…oh. Not any more, they don’t. Heh. [NHL.com]
  • Congrats are also in order for the Caps’ first-round draft pick Andre Burakovsky, who was the first NHL draftee selected in the CHL import entry draft. He was selected 5th overall by the Erie Otters of the OHL … [Buzzing the Net, RMNB]
    • … but this report from Sweden seems to suggest he was perhaps expecting to be chosen by a different team … [Mr. MadHawk]
    • … and this report, also from Sweden, seems to indicate that Bukarovsky was not happy with his playing time at Malmo and may be considering an offer from Rogle. [HD.se]
  • More congratulations – this time directed to Nicklas Backstrom, who announced that he and his lady are expecting Baby Bäckis in early October. [@RabiesMalin, RMNB]
  • The Caps’ DevCamp opens on Monday. Get all the deets with roster and schedules courtesy of sk84fun_DC. [FanPost]
  • Finally, happy 41st birthday to Big Rig Mike Knuble, and happy 237th birthday to the good ol’ U.S. of A.
