Washington Capitals 2013 Entry Draft Open Thread

New, comments

With needs to address and a somewhat barren cupboard, it's a big day for George McPhee and the organization...

The Caps enter the day holding eight picks over the seven-round draft, including the 23rd selection overall, and a pair of fifth-rounders. Here's an overview of their picks:

Round Selection(s)
1 23
2 53
3 84
4 114
5 127, 144
6 174
7 204

Of course, if recent history is any indication, they may not be holding onto all of those picks, as they've made a draft-day trade in each of the past five years:

  • June 22, 2012: Caps acquired Mike Ribeiro from Dallas for Cody Eakin and a 2nd round pick (Mike Winther) in the 2012 NHL Draft.
  • June 24, 2011: Caps acquired Troy Brouwer from Chicago for a 1st round pick (Phillip Danault) in the 2011 Entry Draft.
  • June 26, 2010: Caps acquired a 4th round pick (Philipp Grubauer) in the 2010 Entry Draft from Toronto for a 4th round pick (Petter Granberg) and a 5th round pick (Daniel Brodin) in 2010.
  • June 27, 2009: Caps acquired a 5th round pick (Caleb Herbert) in the 2010 Entry Draft from Phoenix for Sami Lepisto.
  • June 20, 2008: Caps acquired a 1st round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft (John Carlson) from Philadelphia for Steve Eminger and a 3rd round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft (Jacob Deserres).

That nugget and more comes via the Caps' Draft Guide.

Look for updates in this story stream throughout the day, including new posts each time a big pick - and news - is made.

And of course... have at it, people.
