- Down a level, Saturday night marked the North American pro debut of Russian defenseman prospect Dmitri Orlov, who pulled on his Hershey Bears #27 sweater for the first time. He was on-ice for two (powerplay!) goals for and none against in a 4-3 Bears victory over the visiting Albany Devils, and he had an assist on a Steve Pinizzotto powerplay goal. He finished 0-1-1, even, 0 PIM for the night. By all accounts he impressed, with a calm demeanor, good hockey sense, and big shot. [SHoE, Patriot-News (Leone)]

- And finally, the organizing committee for Sochi 2014 has introduced the mascots for the Winter Olympics. The mascots were chosen by a fan voting process; these were the options the fans could vote for. Ultimately the voters selected the bunny, the polar bear, and the snow leopard.
