20 18 Signs of life from the Caps and their beleaguered captain, Alex Ovechkin. They salvaged a point against Nashville after falling behind 3-0 and have gone 4-2-1 in their past seven. They’ll face the Sabres twice in the next three games. Interesting.

23 20 Michal Neuvirth started his fifth straight game, a 4-2 loss at Buffalo on Monday, but neither he nor Tomas Vokoun has been able to hold the No. 1 job, and the Caps are 6-10-1 on the road. Thoughts of this being an “elite” team are rapidly fading. It desperately needs D-man Mike Green back (he returned to practice on Tuesday) and a return to form by Alex Ovechkin, who has a three-game point streak, with a goal in two of the tilts. Remember when three points in three games used to be a dry spell for good old No. 8?
