The Caps gave up 14 goals in their last two preseason games. There were valuable lessons in each game from which a young team can learn, especially in Saturday night's loss in which the Caps blew 4-0 and 5-1 leads. Let's hope the squad went to school.
Here's the WaPo's coverage of last night's game and the cuts that need to be made before Wednesday's game. The WTimes covers largely the same ground.
Sunday's End-o'-Preseason Scoreboard:
- Roberto Luongo continues to be a wall in goal for Florida, stopping all 32 Lightning shots in the Panthers 4-0 win over the defending champs. Niklas Hagman scored twice for the Cats.
- A late Jaromir Jagr goal and a goal and two assists by Michael Nylander pushed the Rangers past the Devils 3-2.
- Keith Tkachunky scored with two minutes left to lift the Blues past the Blackhawks 2-1.
- Nashville beat Columbus 4-1 thanks to 23 saves from Tomas Vokoun.
- Dany Heatley keeps scoring like it's his job (well, you know), racking up a pair of goals and a helper as the Sens shutout the Habs 3-0.
- Avs defenseman Curtis Leschyshyn has retired.
