The Noon Number: Solid Back-Up Plan

9 – Shutouts for Capitals goaltenders so far this season, tying the club’s single-season high set in 1995-96 and tied in 2014-15.

Of those nine white-washings, Braden Holtby has posted six and Philipp Grubauer three, marking just the third time in team history that the team has had two netminders with at least three shutouts. Per Elias, “Al Jensen (4) and Pat Riggin (4) did it in 1983–84, Tomas Vokoun (4) and Michal Neuvirth (3) in 2011–12.”

By blanking the Kings on Sunday, Grubauer helped the team set a new mark for most home shutouts in a season (8), passing that 1995-96 team, and helped further solidify the team’s League-leading 2.08 goals-against-per-game.
