The Noon Number: The Less-Than-Great 8

8 – Number of games, over the course of his career, in which Alex Ovechkin has been held without a shot on goal. Last night marked the second time it’s happened to Ovechkin this season… although reasonable minds could differ on whether his play to set up T.J. Oshie should have counted as a shot.

It’s only happened twice in the same season once before, back in 2013 when he was kept away from the net at the end of February and again in mid-March – both times against the Hurricanes.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, even on nights where Ovechkin’s shots aren’t hitting the net, he’s still able to produce, with points in six of the eight games (and multi-point games twice, including last night’s two-assist effort).

A bit more surprising, the Caps’ record when Ovechkin has 0 shots on goal? 6-1-1.
