The Noon Number: 1A and 1B

2 – Caps goalies who have posted a five-on-five save percentage of .940* or better so far this season: Philipp Grubauer (.945 in 633 minutes) and Braden Holtby (.940* in 1978).

Over a full season since 2007-08 (the period for which this data is readily available), only one other team – the 2014-15 Blackhawks – has had a pair of goalies who played 500 minutes and posted marks that high (and the ‘Hawks duo didn’t include #1 netminder Corey Crawford, but rather Scott Darling (.948 in 653 minutes) and Antti Raanta (.942 in 647)).

Grubauer and Holtby currently rank 9th and 26th, respectively, among the 607 qualifying goaltenders in five-on-five save percentage over this ten-year span.

* Okay, so Holtby is at .9398.
