The Noon Number: Count on Karl

499 – Number of consecutive games played for Karl Alzner coming into tonight’s game, which continues to be a franchise record (Alzner topped Bobby Carpenter’s 423 consecutive games last season). That stretch dates back to the start of the 2010-11 season, and is tied for the fourth-most games played over that span; only Keith Yandle (503) has played more among NHL blueliners.

Over the past six-plus seasons, Alzner has absorbed 870 hits (per corsica.hockey) and blocked a whopping 963 shots, sixth-most in the NHL (teammate Carlson sits just ahead of him with 991)… a heck of a lot of punishment to take without missing a game.
