The Noon Number: Even Flow

36.4 – Minutes the Caps and Flyers skated at five-a-side last night, the lowest amount of time the Caps have recorded at that manpower this season and the lowest since January 30, 2014. The second-lowest this year? Game 1, when the two teams were five-on-five for just 37.4 minutes.

The two teams were shorthanded five times each through the first 50 minutes of the game last night, along with two sets of coincidental minors, before the Flyers (and their fans) went on a penalty parade to end the game. By the end of the night, the Caps had logged 12:48 of power-play time (on nine opportunities) and 9:30 of shorthanded time.

So just in case you were wondering… yes, special teams have been important.
