The Noon Number: Where There’s a Will…

7 – Number of shots on goal for Justin Williams in last night’s loss, the most of any skater on either team (and more than twice as many as any of the Islanders). Williams generated ten shot attempts total, at all situations, which trailed only Matt Niskanen (14) and Alex Ovechkin (13) for the team lead.

Alas, it ultimately proved fruitless, as Williams – and the rest of his ‘mates – left the ice with nothing to show for their efforts. But it was close:

Those seven shots that actually hit the net tie for the most Williams has had in a single game since joining the Caps; the only other time he’s had as many as seven shots as a Cap was back in March against the Blues.

Over the course of his career, Williams has managed seven or more shots a fairly impressive 27 times… that said, he’s got a long way to catch up to teammate Alex Ovechkin, who has fired at least seven shots on goal in a game 205 times. To put that into context, the next-highest total dating back to 1987 is Brett Hull’s 165.
