1 – Number of goals scored against the Caps in the third period so far this season, with the Rangers’ empty-net goal on Saturday the only blemish on their record so far. No other team has given up fewer than three goals in the third period this year; in fact, it’s the fewest goals allowed by any team in any single non-overtime period to date.
The Caps have been pretty stingy in the opening frame, as well, giving up just two goals in the first period – that’s tied for fewest in the League, and puts their total goals-against among the lowest as well.
Now, if they could only clean up those pesky second periods…
