Capitals Host Dream for Kids Event, Providing both Opportunity and Perspective

On a historically cold February Friday morning, kids young and old filed onto the Capitals ice at Kettler Iceplex to take part in one of the more memorable events the ice rink hosts, the annual Dreams For Kids DC Extreme Recess Hockey clinic.

Dreams for Kids is a charity that helps children with developmental and physical disabilities looking to experience sports such as hockey for potentially the very first time, breaking down barriers for the kids as they see their peers having a good time and exploring a new experience while learning from the people they look up to. Now in its fifth year in partnership with the Capitals, the Dreams For Kids clinic draws famous faces from the Capitals organization that the children in attendance swarm for autographs and for lessons on how to hold a stick alike.

This year, head coach Barry Trotz as well as players Karl Alzner, Andre Burakovsky and Aaron Volpatti were in attendance, and so were we. So take a look at the following video from the event (filmed and produced by Peter von Kahle), be sure to check out Rink reader Ann-Marie Ward’s account and this one at FTW as well, and for more information about Dreams For Kids DC, please head over to http://dreamsforkidsdc.org/.
