The Noon Number: Leading the Way

5:35 – Amount of time the Caps trailed their opponent during their recent six-game winning streak, all of which occurred in the 5-3 win over Winnipeg on November 25. The Caps had the lead in almost 228 minutes of the 360 minutes total over that span, and scored first in each of the six games. Both of those trends came to an end Saturday afternoon, when they ceded the game’s first goal to the Jets and trailed for 14:32 in the eventual overtime loss.

Since the start of the season, the Caps have only been behind in 15 of their 25 games played, second-fewest in the League (behind Montreal, which has only trailed in 14 games), and their total time trailing is 298.1 minutes, second-fewest (Rangers, 295.7).

Not only have they minimized the amount of time spent playing catch-up, but they’ve also minimized the amount they actually need to catch, as they’ve trailed by two or more goals in just four games and for only 81.4 minutes, both fewest in the League.
