Washington Capitals Top Ten Goals of 2015

Led by five-time (and 2014-15) Rocket Richard winner Alex Ovechkin, the Caps have been well-stocked in the goal department. So as calendar year 2015 prepares to sail into the mists, like the ringbearers to Vallinor, the Undying Lands, let’s take a look back at ten that stand out against the rest.

10. October 10, 2015 – Alex Ovechkin vs New Jersey

In vintage Ovechkin fashion, it was a curl and drag into some open high-danger ice. You’ve seen this look before, and it’s still as sweet as it ever was.

9. November 7, 2015 – Nicklas Backstrom vs Toronto

Ain’t no time for a game-tying goal like the final second of regulation!

8. October 31, 2015 – Evgeny Kuznetsov vs Florida

On Halloween, there was nothing scarier than Evgeny Kuznetsov’s set of wheels and mitts on full display, as the Russian center won the offensive zone faceoff… and a few seconds later ended the game.

7. November 21, 2015 – Dmitry Orlov vs Colorado

It started with skill and smooth skating and it ended with subterfuge, as Dmitry Orlov pulled off the rare hidden puck trick.

6. December 12, 2015 – Evgeny Kuznetsov vs Tampa Bay

These are the best hockey players in the world. Kuznetsov sometimes makes the best hockey players in the world look foolish. Why? Because he’s a damn artist.

5. April 21, 2015 – Nicklas Backstrom vs New York Islanders

There’s an awfully large difference between down two games in a playoff series and being tied at one. Nicklas Backstrom made sure of the latter with this overtime winner on Jaroslav Halak in Game 4 of the ECQF.

4. May 2, 2015 – Alex Ovechkin vs New York Rangers

Ovi doing Ovi things…against the best goaltender in the world in the most famous arena in the world.

3. January 1, 2015 – Troy Brouwer vs Chicago Blackhawks

Big stadium, big ceremony, big goal.

2. April 30, 2015 – Joel Ward vs New York Rangers

Last second dramatics from The Big Cheese in the Big Apple to end Game 1 of the semifinals in Washington’s favor.

1. April 27, 2015 – Evgeny Kuznetsov vs New York Islanders

That’s the sound of a playoff-series win, courtesy of Evgeny Kuznetsov, who showed up on this list more than any of his comrades.

…and here’s hoping next year’s iteration of this list has some datestamps in June.
