3 – Number of wins the Capitals have in the last eight games in which Alex Ovechkin has scored at least two goals. Prior to this stretch (which includes a 3-1-3 record this season, and two losses in the last three games heading into the All-Star break), the Caps had won 60 of Ovechkin’s previous 67 multi-goal regular season games and 70 of 84 all-time, as well as three-of-four in the post-season.
And lest you think the Caps’ captain is piling up goals in blowout losses, here’s a closer look at these last five losses:
Date | Opponent | Score after 1st goal | Score after 2nd goal | Final |
3/25/2014 | Los Angeles | 1-0 | 2-0 | 4-5 (SO) |
10/14/2014 | San Jose | 3-4 | 4-5 | 5-6 (SO) |
11/26/2014 | N.Y. Islanders | 1-1 | 2-2 | 2-3 (OT) |
1/16/2015 | Nasvhille | 1-2 | 2-2 | 3-4 |
1/20/2015 | Edmonton | 1-0 | 2-0 | 4-5 (SO) |
Interestingly enough, the Caps are 6-1-0 when they get a two-goal game from someone other than Ovechkin this season.
