Alex Ovechkin Scores 50... Again

Bruce Bennett

The Caps' captain has picked up his 5th 50-goal season with his power-play tally against the Blues.

With his tally in the 1st period of today's game against the Blues, Alex Ovechkin has hit the 50-goal mark yet again, the fifth time the Caps' captain has reached 50 goals in his nine seasons (and his first half-century performance since the 2009-10 campaign).

To score 50 goals in a season in this day and age is impressive enough; since the 2005-06 season, only ten other players have achieved that mark (and Ovechkin is the only one to have done so more than twice over that span). Even more impressive is the fact that he becomes just the eleventh player in NHL history to have at least five 50-goal seasons in his career, joining the ranks of Pavel Bure, Phil Esposito, Bobby and Brett Hull, and Steve Yzerman.

Some elite goal-scoring company for sure, and just one more achievement for a player who has done just about everything a player can do at the individual level.

Here's goal #50:
