Capitals-Bruins: Postgame Quotes

Via the team:

Washington Capitals head coach Adam Oates on the team's play in the last 30 minutes...

"They ended up getting a goal in the second period, which obviously gave us life. But the last five minutes of the second period, we had like three grade-A chances. It was like the recipe that you're supposed to do all of a sudden showed up and the rest of the game was solid."

Washington Capitals forward Eric Fehr on what positives could be taken from this game...

"I thought that most of the third period we took the play to one of the best teams in the league. That's a positive for us. Definitely don't want to take that long, but we know they are a good team and in our own rink we should be able to use momentum and create chances."

Washington Capitals forward Eric Fehr on the trouble the Caps have been having at the start of games...

"I think our team has had a little bit of trouble with our starts. I'm not sure exactly what it is. We need to find a way to get into the games quicker and get the adrenaline going and try to get the momentum going the right way."

Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby on losing an important game like this...

"Obviously, it frustrating. It would have been a huge win for us. But you have to give the Bruins credit. They're first in the East for a reason. It was one of those games. We need to have it no matter what if want to give ourselves the best chance. Unfortunately we didn't, so we have to move on and focus on the next game."

Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby on the amount of traffic the Bruins put in front of the net...

"More than normal for most teams, but not for the Bruins. They always play like that. They get a lot of their goals like that. Their first was a deflection from in tight, their second one was a rebound in tight and the third one was the same thing. It's where they get their goals, that's where we need to be strong. Where I need to be stronger. Unfortunately, we didn't do that."

Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien on his team's response to the late Caps goal in the second period...

"That goal that we gave them at the end of the second [period] gave them the life that they probably needed, and that was a mistake on our part. They came out in the third [period] with some desperation and some opportunities, but I think our guys played well. For the most part, we kept them on the outside and that's the way you've got to play them. You've got to stay out of the box as much as you can [because of the] great power play. We respected those criteria and gave us an opportunity to win."

Boston Bruins goaltender Chad Johnson on facing Washington's pressure in the latter stages of the game...

"In the second half on the game, [Washington] found their game a little bit and were throwing pucks on net and they were going a lot more compared to the first period, so we just tried to weather the storm there. They got a couple lucky goals but we were able to get the two points."

Boston Bruins goaltender Chad Johnson on the first Washington goal coming at the end of the second period...

"They had some pressure there in the second [period] and they got a goal there and you knew they were going to come out and try to use that as momentum. I thought we did a good job holding them off there in the third [period],

and it was good to get the two points."

Boston Bruins forward Jarome Iginla on matching the Caps' desperation...

"We knew how desperate [Washington] was, we know where they are in the standings and how hungry they would be here at home and trying to match that desperation and intensity early. I thought we did a good job with that because they did come out strong. They're a good skating club and they're physical too and I thought we were able to play right there with them and in the second period we were able to get some good breaks."

Boston Bruins forward Jarome Iginla on what contributed to the win today...

"I thought all the way around, we played a very solid road game. The goaltending was great again. We've had outstanding goaltending this year. [Bruins goaltender Chad Johnson] coming in there and made some huge saves early. Our [penalty kill] was real good because [Washington] has a great power play. It was a big boost to get those kills."
