Caps vs. Pens 3rd Period Thread

Washington was oh-so-close to tying the contest but Evgeny Kuznetsov was rudely denied from five feet out by a spectacular save by Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. The Capitals were outshot again (by the exact same amount) so we're all anticipating a return on investment in the final frame.

Caps vs. Pens 2nd Period Thread

Tonight's 8-Bit Lines: Back to Halak Back-to-Back

Per Mike Vogel, Brooks Laich did not make the trip to Pittsburgh and will be replaced by Casey Wellman tonight, while Jaroslav Halak will take over crease duties for a third-straight game and second-straight night.

Aside from that, well... no morning skate means no clues on what lineup Adam Oates might throw out to wrap up the season set with the Penguins. But with a sudden lack of centers and a promise to "ease" Evgeny Kuznetsov into regular duty, here's one of about eighty billion possibilities for tonight's lines and defensive pairs:

90-19-8_medium

Marcus Johansson - Nicklas Backstrom - Alex Ovechkin

17-90-20_medium

Dustin Penner - Jay Beagle - Troy Brouwer

25-16-42_medium

Jason Chimera - Eric Fehr - Joel Ward

92-48-43_medium

Evgeny Kuznetsov - Casey Wellman - Tom Wilson

27-74

Karl Alzner - John Carlson

81-52_medium
Dmitry Orlov - Mike Green

38-58_medium
Jack Hillen - Connor Carrick

...or something like that.

So that leaves Brooks Laich, John Erskine, Mikhail Grabovski and Aaron Volpatti out with injuries, and Braden Holtby backing up Halak. Again.
