The Noon Number: Phew – Two Not Too Few

168 – Number of regular season games that had passed since the Caps had last won a game in regulation in which they scored fewer than three goals prior to last night’s win in Raleigh (something Adam Oates‘s Caps never did, but Dale Hunter‘s team did five times in the 60 games he coached; Bruce Boudreau‘s squad did it 18 times). Since that previous win (over Toronto on March 11, 2012), the Caps had lost 52-straight regular season games that were decided in regulation in which they failed to score three goals (and 16-52-10 overall in games in which they scored two or fewer through sixty minutes), and Braden Holtby hadn’t won one since March 11, 2011… over Carolina.
