Since that previous win (over Toronto on March 11, 2012), the Caps had lost 52-straight regular season games that were decided in regulation in which they failed to score three goals (and 16-52-10 overall in games in which they scored two or fewer through sixty minutes), and Braden Holtby hadn’t won one since March 11, 2011… over Carolina.
