Capitals-Senators: Postgame Quotes

Via the team:

Washington Capitals head coach Adam Oates on the lack of offense tonight...

"You have to try and get [goals]. We played pretty hard...we had twenty one chances five-on-five. Their goalie played well, but we had a lot of guys with some really good looks, good chances. We have to score some goals. I would say the chances were good chances tonight, and we had a lot of them. It is a matter of finishing."

Washington Capitals head coach Adam Oates on the line between staying positive and pushing the players...

"We played hard. We didn't gamble to give them two-on-one chances, which is an important thing because you still just need one [goal] with a minute to go and you get a chance. The second goal hurt because we were in the game, it was a 1-0 game. Holts [Braden Holtby] played a good game. I thought we had a lot of opportunities. Orly [Dmitry Orlov] walks down the pike again, they broke down, their goalie made some saves. We had some good guys, legit chances...we've got to figure out a way to get more [goals] - no question."

Washington Capitals forward Troy Brouwer on what isn't working for the Caps...

"We're not scoring goals. We're working hard. Our effort was there tonight and we are doing the right things, getting pucks deep, getting shots to the net. [Ottawa goaltender Craig] Anderson made some good saves when he needed to, but we've got to score goals."

Washington Capitals forward Troy Brouwer on the Caps scoring chances tonight...

"I think we've had some good opportunities. [John] Carlson had a semi-breakaway there, our PP [power play] kind of sputtered a little bit, we didn't get as many chances on that as we would have liked. We had some good looks from the point, a couple of shots in tight, a few rebounds here and there, but we've got to work on our secondary chances."

Washington Capitals forward Brooks Laich on the play of the Caps...

"I don't think we're playing heavy enough hockey. I think we are too much on the outside. I don't think we are consistently enough going from the outside and fighting through a check or leaning on a guy and trying to get to an area around the net where we can get chances. Some guys are trying, but when you are not scoring, we need to be better at doing that. Maybe they hook you, maybe they trip you, maybe they panic for a second and grab you."

Washington Capitals forward Brooks Laich on what the Caps need to be doing differently...

"If you're not winning, there's a reason you're not winning. When you win it's because you deserve to win, generally. If you are not winning, do something extra. We're tired of talking about it. Well done is better than well said. If you want to talk about it, go show it on the ice. We have to prove it to our teammates, to ourselves, to the organization."

Ottawa Senators head coach Paul MacLean on winning a tough road game...

"I thought our team game was very solid throughout. I thought we played a really good 60 minutes in the game. I thought the momentum swings we handled well or dictated a little bit of it. Obviously our penalty killer did a very good job and our goaltender made saves when we needed it. Our special teams ends up being the difference in the game. We get a power-play goal that puts it away."

Ottawa Senators head coach Paul MacLean on getting pucks on net tonight...

"In the course of the game things are going to go that way. We just need to stick to it and not overreact to anything that's going on. Just make sure to stick to it and stick to it and find a way. 50-50 isn't a bad way to play for a lot of the game. Just accept that is the important part. The hard part is accepting that and thinking that that's a good shift and getting ready for the next one and not forcing pucks into place where you put yourself in a bad spot."

Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson on tonight's road victory...

"We played really well for 60 minutes. From the start of the game to the end of the game we did things we were supposed to do and we did them well."

Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson on being in a comfort zone tonight...

"It's one of things where you have a period and you can kind of put it behind you and make sure you start the next period and pretend it's 0-0 and make the next save. You kind of break it down into smaller games within the game to keep yourself focused and not get too caught up in the score."

Ottawa Senators forward Zack Smith on tonight's road win...

"That was a good road game. We kept it pretty simple for the most part. I don't think we turned over a lot of pucks, especially at our blueline and their blueline. Andy [Craig Anderson] was huge. We had a couple of big goals and our penalty kill was working tonight too."

Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza on getting a two-goal lead in Verizon Center...

"It's a building where they are notorious for coming back and getting momentum. So to get the two-goal lead lets us play a little different style and with a little more confidence. I thought we played better with the lead tonight in general."

Ottawa Senators forward Kyle Turris on creating opportunities with the puck...

"We had lots of chances, and we did a pretty good job of eliminating theirs. They had a couple late in the game but Andy [Craig Anderson] played well. We capitalized on a couple of ours and could have capitalized on a couple more. It was nice to come out with a win."
