Monday Caps Clips: DevCamp Opening Day

Your savory breakfast links:

  • It’s the first day of the 2013 Washington Capitals Development Camp! Team White hits the rink for on-ice testing at 9am, and Team Red will do the same at 10:45.
  • You can’t tell the players without nametags hastily velcro’d onto practice jerseys a program. Here are two:
    • The Caps’ official media guide, with schedule & bios [@WashCaps]
    • Sk84fun_DC’s excellent annual FanPost. [Rink]
  • In addition, here’s some more information on a few of the attendees. In no particular order:
    • The leading 2012-13 CIS scorer Justin Larson is pumped to go camping. [U of Waterloo, PB Examiner, and he’s one of the two gents in the photo here.]
    • The Western Mustangs have groovy socks and Zach Harnden. Only one will be attending DevCamp, however. [Western Mustangs, LFP]
    • Penn State’s shiny new hockey team will be watching as Patrick Koudys takes the ice – he’s joining them in the fall as a junior. [Thank You Terry]
    • Voltigeurs goaltender Louis-Philip Guindon is making a week of it. After going all the way to New Jersey to not hear his name called in the draft, he was invited to the Habs’ DevCamp, which he left on Saturday to make his way to Ballston. [Journal Express, and again (links in French)]
    • Tyler Lewington did hear his name called, but he had to wait quite a while to hear it. Only seven players waited longer this year. [Sherwood Park News, Medicine Hat News]
    • The Greater Lawrence/Southern New Hampshire region has two Caps draft picks (Brian Pinho and Zach Sanford) headed to DevCamp and they couldn’t be prouder. Take that, Beantown! [Eagle Tribune, Salem News, Union Leader]
    • Hmm. Chance Braid has an invite to DevCamp and apparently a ticket for rookie camp in September as well. [Island Sports News]
    • Hold it here – there’s a late add to the invitee coaching ranks. Welcome Courtney Laughlin, the daughter of Craig Laughlin and a self-described “retired college goalie.” [@courtlaugh22, SUNY Potsdam Athletics (video)]
  • Prospects to watch. [WaPo]
  • And speaking of prospects, the Caps’ top-end talent is keeping the org afloat in HP’s latest rankings, but there’s not a lot of depth generally. [Hockey Prospectus]
  • And speaking of speaking of prospects, Peerless starts in on a look at a decade of Caps picks. Buckle up. [Peerless]
  • Finally, happy 62nd birthday to Leif Svensson, happy 58th birthday to Greg Smith, and happy birthday to Mike Ridley, who hits the big 5-0.
