Today's Number takes a look at a power play that has succeeded despite one surprising statistic
The Noon Number: 112 - Number of power-play goals scored by NHL defensemen this season, none of which has been scored by Capitals, leaving Washington as the only team without an extra-man tally from the blueline (Montreal leads the League with 10), this despite having the third most-efficient power play in the NHL (which, it should be noted, usually trots out four forwards and a single rearguard). Per HockeyAnalysis.com, Caps defenders have taken 26 shots in 2013, with 14 of those coming off John Carlson's stick, nine credited to Mike Green, a pair belonging to Tomas Kundratek and a single 5-on-4 shot taken by Tom Poti.
On a related point (think about it), Nicklas Backstrom is still looking for his first primary assist of the season on the power play.
