John Erskine is many things that hockey lore holds in high esteem. He's tough as nails, capable of delivering a big hit and unafraid to drop the gloves when need be. And for all of his aggressiveness, he's a relatively clean player.
But this hit on Wayne Simmonds late in the first period of Friday night's Caps win over Philly, wasn't clean:
The hit somehow went unpenalized during the game, but it's doubtful that the League will also miss this one. Erskine doesn't have a rap sheet littered with prior offenses, but it shouldn't matter - he should and almost certainly will get some time off for that hit.
