Thursday Caps Clips: A Come-From-Ahead Turkey

Rob Carr

Daily Washington Capitals news and notes: Recap roundup, Dima asks out, and more.

Your savory breakfast links:

  • Recaps and other assorted musings on last night's loss from us (with quotes), Vogs, Monumental video (Oates, Laich, Fehr, Holtby, Carlson, MacLean, Sens' room), NHL.com, WaPo, CSNW, Frankovic, DSP, USA Today and RMNB, and from the Sens' side, Edmonton Sun & Silver Seven.
    • Taking a closer look at Erik Karlsson 's first period counter-hit on Alex Ovechkin that left the Captain shaken up and decidedly un-shooty the rest of the game... [RMNB]
    • ... as Coach Oates was decidedly un-happy postgame with the execution and attitude of his team. [RMNB, WaPo, CSNW, PHT]
    • Tyson Strachan vs. Chris Neil in the fight that was s'posed to be a power play, and then Aaron Volpatti vs. Colin Greening. Welp. [HockeyFights, and again]
  • News and notes from pregame:
  • Your Turkey Day Capitals Minute. [Capitals Voice]
  • The Dmitry Orlov Pain Train has apparently left the Ballston station, as Dima's agent Mark Gandler revealed that he is formally demanding a trade for his client. [CSNWSITheScore, Eye on Hockey, Sportsnet]
    • Prior to the news of this demand, Dima gave an interview as he departed Kettler for the all-too-familiar voyage to Giant Center... [RMNB]
    • ...and Elliotte Friedman provided some Orlov notes in his 30 Thoughts column. [CBC]
    • Hershey head coach Mike Haviland: "While he's here we'll use him, and if he gets traded we'll wish him the best. This is this business. I think the kid has a ton of talent. When he's been down here, he's played well. I have no issues with him and his effort and his attitude. We've got to coach the guys that are here and he's here right now, so we'll continue to coach him." [Patriot-News]
    • At least one pro scout arrived in Hershey for Wednesday's game and has plans to stay through the weekend. [@m_speck]
  • In other trade demand news, the Capitals team store at Kettler has already moved its Martin Erat merchandise to the clearance racks. Call us old-fashioned, but this seems a wee bit hasty. [via @bobmccarter]
  • Ah well, at least we'll have Ovi's 70-goal season to look forward to. Won't we? [ESPN $]
  • In which Brooks Laich offers a bit of insight on how the filming of 24/7 might have been more than a little disruptive. [Sportsnet]
  • The Hershey Bears had another disappointing home performance, this one against former Bear Andrew Gordon and the JohnnyJets, and Coach Haviland had a postgame presser that was similar to Adam Oates'. [Patriot-News, SHoE, THW]
  • Fun with Olympic rosters:  The IIHF, NHL, and NHLPA have agreed to postpone the final roster submission deadline from January 1 to January 7. [ESPN]
  • In Caps' prospect news:
  • The end of Movember is nigh.  Thank goodness. [Capitals Hill]
  • Finally, it was two years ago today that the Caps parted ways with Bruce Boudreau and embarked upon the short-lived Dale Hunter Era. (That morning's pre-firing Clips make for an interesting read.)
  • One more: Happy Thanksgiving to our American readers, and happy fourth-Thursday-of-the-eleventh-month to everyone else. The Japers' staff is very grateful for the readership and community here at the Rink (this also means you, lurkers!), and we also give thanks for all the folks who take the time to create awesome hockey content and publish it on the interwebs.
