Capitals-Canadiens: Postgame Quotes

Via the team:

Washington Capitals head coach Adam Oates on moving forward...

"You look at our record and we're 7-2 in November. If we won that game the other night, we're the hottest team in the league in November, so you have to put that in perspective sometimes."

Washington Capitals head coach Adam Oates on the play of goaltender Michal Neuvirth...

"[Neuvirth] made some great saves in the second period, gave us a chance. [The Canadiens] are up 3 and miss that open net, and then we score one at the end of the period, so that gives us a little life. He played well after that and he gave us a chance, stopped some [shots]."

Washington Capitals forward Troy Brouwer on getting behind 3-0 in the first period...

"We waited until about 18 or 19 minutes left in the first period to look like we had some jump. We spotted them a three goal lead, and things that we're trying to avoid, turnovers on the first [goal] and taking penalties on the third [goal]. The second [goal] was a tough call, but that's how it goes. We have to have better starts. We can't expect to win games if we're down 3-0."

Washington Capitals forward Troy Brouwer on addressing the team's problem getting out to a strong start...

"Whether it's being more ready in warm-up, more crisp in warm-up, more crisp even before the game starts, we've got to find some way, because that's been a big problem of ours all season long, is our starts. [We're] getting down by goals, sometimes multiple goals, and we have the ability to come back in this room. But you're not going to be able to do it every night."

Washington Capitals forward Martin Erat on the Caps taking some ill-timed penalties tonight...

"I don't know what to say about it. It's just killing everything. You go, you go, you go, and finally you get some push, and then we take a penalty. If it's one or not, it's bad for the moment."

Washington Capitals forward Brooks Laich on the team's perceived lack of preparation...

"Whatever we're doing right now isn't working. Whether it's spending some time with your line mates, or your [defensive] partner, or a five man group, we have to change something before the game so that we are prepared. It used to be a strength of our hockey club, especially in this building. We used to get a field goal in almost every first period, and we haven't done that at all this year, and that's something we certainly have to address."

Washington Capitals forward Brooks Laich on how the team felt after falling to an early 1-0 hole...

"At that point, there's a lot of hockey left. It was a tough one. It was a little play up the middle that rolls off [Capitals forward Mikhail Grabovski's] stick, and they end up getting a shot and it ends up going in. But at that point there's a lot of hockey left, and that can't deter us at all."

Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien on the win tonight...

"We had a really good start, obviously. I really liked the way we played the second period. We were dictating the game and had a few breakdowns at times. They were pressing a lot in the third. Peter [Peter Budaj] was fantastic again. There is a lot of positive about winning a hockey game here."

Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien on his teams resiliency during the second period...

"I really liked the way we kept our composure between periods. The team was dictating the game and skating and creating chances. At times I thought we could have had a few goals in the second period."

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Peter Budaj on containing the Capitals in the last minute of play...

"I think we know what to expect from them. They have great offensive power and a lot of skill up front. With Ovi [Alex Ovechkin] playing the way he is playing, we were able to manage, and I think they only had one shot at the end, which was not a huge scoring chance. We got a big two points for us tonight."

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Peter Budaj on stopping the Capitals breakaway chances...

"It felt good because I think we were pushing, we were pressing, and we were shooting and they didn't have any shot. All of a sudden they had breakaways. I was glad that I was able to make the save and helped the team to keep them in the game. We didn't let Washington get back into the game, and it was a good feeling obviously. I was glad that I was able to make the save. We blocked all the shots today. We did the little things right, and it's a big win. I think they had pretty much the same points we did to start the game, and it's a big two points for us."

Montreal Canadiens forward Travis Moen on his lines effectiveness tonight...

"I think we're starting to get some chemistry now. We were playing a lot of our time in their zone and getting some chances. It feels like coach has confidence in us defensively."

Montreal Canadiens forward Travis Moen on scoring his first goal of the season...

"It's always nice to get the first one. Jump out to an early lead. We played really well in the first. Boods [Peter Budaj] second and third period really stood in there for us and made some great saves. We held it together but could have played a little better in the third."
