The team is winning, at least enough to be solidly in the playoffs, Alex Ovechkin is scoring, and the style of play isn't changing every six weeks. Things are rather calm in the nations capital at least hockey wise, there are no crisis of will we play all defense or all offense or hybrid, they are what they are at this point. There are no national magazines writing articles as to weather ovechkin is washed up or not. There are no television cameras capturing the worst week of a good coaches career, and there isn't a cataclysmic divide between an interim head coach and our future hall of fame captain. There seems to be nothing but quiet coming out of DC these days It sure is nice isnt it?
After years with semi-decent to great results, there always seemed to be some sort of drama one way or another. I think @ngreenberg even said at one point during the chaotic Dale Hunter season "when was the last time there wasn't something on this team that was a complete mess" or something along those lines. Every Caps fan could feel the truth in that statement, even during the good Gabby years, it was always "they don't play defense" "will they resign Semin" "Ovechkin isn't a true captain" "SIdney Sidney Sidney", or the total reverse in style after getting Halaked.
Whatever you want to think about the success on the ice of Adam Oates tenure so far it cannot be denied that things are just quieter when it comes to the caps. Maybe thats something or maybe its not, its just nice to be able to listen to MvsW without them doing a "what's wrong with the caps/ov/budreau/semin/ov" segment every day.
