Good morning, folks.
Continuing fun with the new phone.
I have managed to successfully get some of my music over, thanks to Beaker’s suggestion. Double Twist worked far better than Songbird. I haven’t totally figured it out yet, or all my music would be moved, but I at least managed to get my playlists on it.
I’ve also managed to track down some of my vital apps that I use all the time, but I have not yet managed to get Words With Friends back. The android market keeps trying to only show me the free version and I don’t want the ads.
I love my interactive wallpaper. :-D It’s touchable glitter.

Morning Bath! Yeah, I jumped the Apple ship. I wasn’t going to, but I learned that the iPhone 4s are still on the 3g network, which I didn’t understand. Also, they only had the 8 gb model left. Anything larger had to be a 4s, which I REALLY didn’t want. So I ended up getting a Droid Razr 4G LTE. It’s GAWGEOUS.

My MO in all games I currently have going is to dominate early, then completely lose in the last two turns. You are in fine company.
Verizon people (at least at the store I went to) are pretty upfront that the LTE network drains the 4G phones in 6-8 hours. I keep the wireless phone data off most of the time and a full battery will last at least a couple of days. Haven’t tried locking it to only use the 3G network, though.

I just tried to discuss the political theories of elite accommodation and. civil society in driving governance change and I don’t think any of it was understood.
Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION! Season Pledge total--$1210.35!
I thought I was making sense. Either I’m a terrible teach, people have their heads in the sand and refuse to acknowledge reality, or I work with dunces. Basically:
Elite accommodation means the political elite class makes the changes for their own self-interested reasons. Great example is post-Franco Spain, where the change to a constitutional monarchy was driven almost entirely by the elite class. Since the American elite class is either apathetic or outright hostile to the issue of DC democracy, this option is a no-go.
Civil society is the rest of us. Pressure from civil society forced changes such as the Civil Rights Act. Except for a small but passionate minority, people inside and outside of DC are rather apathetic, but not outright hostile, and thus we lack the requisite critical mass to push for change. BUT, we can at the very least make a legitimate attempt at educating, organizing, and mobilizing civil society.
all of that gets followed up with “So, we should ask the DC government to hold a hearing on thsi legislation, right?” HEADDESK!
Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION! Season Pledge total--$1210.35!
Yeah, that kind of made my head hurt too.
Dumb down the words a little bit. Civil society is “the normal folk”, “joe public” or “joe sixpack”. The elite are the “rich guys”, “the politicians”, or “the Illuminati”.
The 1% or the 99%.
Besides, Joe Sixpack is a toxic term ever since Sarah Palin french kissed it all over national tv in 2008.
There's always more to learn about Hockey.
Joe Sixpack always makes me think of figure skating commentator Dick Button. Joe Sixpack and Susie Housecoat!

Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION! Season Pledge total--$1328.52!
You explained it perfectly (actually strikes me as what sydtron and I were discussing yesterday, without any of your learned poli-sci terminology. :) ).
You work with dunces.
I’m just sick and tired of wasting our time with the DC government, which has ZERO sway with the political elite that runs the country. And then to have the DC government insist that we engage in this massive protest campaigns—well, we simply don’t have the numbers to pull it off. There are two ways to get change (that don’t involve armed insurrection), and right now, neither option is really available and option 1 is completely off the table. And until we get that, we’re just banging our heads against the wall oevr and over and over again.
trying to get people to understand that is challenging.
Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION! Season Pledge total--$1328.52!
I heard of a third path but it includes self-immolation on the National Mall, so that’s a non-starter.
yeah, people don’t like to volunteer for that one, and the ones that do only do it once!
Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION! Season Pledge total--$1328.52!
Yeah, I don’t know how anyone could imagine that the answer to getting DC rights goes through the DC government.
One thing that stands out to me about the issue, and this is just me ruminating, I’m sure you all have been over this and over this, is how few people in the rest of the country even know that DC residents don’t have voting representation in Congress. I have informed countless people about it. It seems to me that some wider education effort nationwide might help (though that doesn’t help with the elite accommodation aspect). I know! Convince them that you need to start wooing big-time celebrities to your cause! ;)
the need for a well-run deep-pocket nation-wide education campaign is always a hot topic. Unfortunately, no one had yet been willing to put up that sort of money :)
We’re always talking about how we need a “celebrity champion.” That conversation always causes issues, because one group wants someone like a civil rights veteran, one group is thinking too much about local celebrities (look, Jim Vance seems like a nice guy, but he’s nobody outside of DC), and I’m going “it could be Kim Kardashian for all I care, as long as it’s someone EVERYONE knows!” People want a “serious” celebrity, not Kim Kardashian. I think they’re wrong, but that’s because I’m always right :)
