Looks like Schultz is in on D again. Is this his longest streak under Hunter?

Failure is always an option.

by timmyv38 on Feb 7, 2012 5:15 PM EST reply actions

Looks like he had a 4 game streak Dec. 1-7… so I guess not.

Failure is always an option.

by timmyv38 on Feb 7, 2012 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

Glad he is playing. Assuming Orlov is back out, albeit with his face probably plastered up, does this mean Big John is sitting? Will Schultz be paired with Wides again?

by Wilderthing on Feb 7, 2012 5:47 PM EST up reply actions

Reports this morning indicated that Erskine would indeed be sitting. I’d assume Schultz with Wideman, although I haven’t heard anything about pairings yet.

Failure is always an option.

by timmyv38 on Feb 7, 2012 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

OK; I think that is a pretty good pairing because it allows 74 and 27 to get back together. It also means Hamr and Orlov are together, but depending on the game, I am not sure there who the veteran is! Orlov has been looking good, fortunately. I like his game a lot.

by Wilderthing on Feb 7, 2012 5:58 PM EST up reply actions

Those are the pairings I prefer. Schultz plays well with puckmovers like Wideman or Green, Hamrlik has done well in a mentor role in the past, and Carlson-Alzner are comfortable together. Carlson still needs to step up, but that’s a different matter. I heard what the forward lines were at practice, but not the d-pairs.

Failure is always an option.

by timmyv38 on Feb 7, 2012 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

Ditto. Those pairs make the most sense to me but if Dale is going to go to a 4 man rotation, which seems at least plausible, I’d make Orlov/Schultz the bottom pair.

Please, call me F&B.

by Rob Parker on Feb 7, 2012 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

Schultz has gotten 14-15 minutes TOI in the last 2 games, so maybe Hunter is going a bit away from that. But if he is going to go to 2 pairs for a length of time, that probably does make the most sense – depending on how well Hamr is playing.

Failure is always an option.

by timmyv38 on Feb 7, 2012 6:09 PM EST up reply actions

They’re going to need to keep an eye on Orly in this game. He’ll be wearing a cage (one game too late!) and he was having trouble breathing (through his nose, obv.) yesterday. Lot of facial swelling for him too, most likely.

You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!

by EmilyB on Feb 7, 2012 6:12 PM EST up reply actions

The nose is a tough one. If you can’t breathe you just don’t have as much energy.

Flash behind our net, but nothing special.

Yes to both. Flash was in front of the net on the early Weiss shot. Only heard Brads’ name when he came in offsides though.

Get the TuneIn Radio app, then look for Washington Caps Play by Play. Almost real-tie, in-arena radio feed. For those times you can’t get to the TV.

No it was about 30 seconds into the PP it just took 25 seconds to get the puck out of our own zone.

Nothing came of it but awful play by Wideman on Matthias’ last rush. Turned to the outside away from the puck and just gave Matthias the lane.

I bought Gamecenter live so I could watch Caps games while traveling and living out of a hotel room. So annoying how often games are blacked out. Is this game on NBCSports network or something?

I never had an issue with GCL and liked it in college when I couldn’t do Center Ice at the dorm and when I was traveling in hockey

by icehammer97 on Feb 7, 2012 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

tonight is the first time in two months that a weeknight game has not been in def worse than standard or outright broken. even tonight it is still skipping a bit, and it is the best we’ve had here in months. I’m sure it has more to do with comcast than anything, but still…

I'll have the milksteak, over hard

by renstar on Feb 7, 2012 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

Like Sombrero, I use GCL on travel. But here in NC, all FLA, CAR and TB games are blacked out, without fail. I won’t re-up.

Here in TX I see virtually no Caps home games on GCL.
Center Ice is better. Unfortunately, NHL network is all that’s available on Roku and my 3d dvd player.
So I have no choice (kicked the cable addiction)

A little, but in their own zone, its just throwing it out or making silly ’round the rink passes that give Florida the puck back.

Bad play by Wideman there – forced him to take a penalty.

Kind of a weak hook. But Matthias has walked Wideman 3 times in this period alone.
