Third Period Open Thread
The Caps continue to trail by a deuce, but the big story coming out of this one could relate to Brooks Laich, who left the game with an apparent leg injury. Third period ahead...

Wonder why Ovi’s not tucking his jersey into his pants like he usually does.

I ask this all the time, but does anyone actually like Pierre McGuire?

I love Jeremy Roenick when they have him on. I love Doc Emrick’s play-by-play. And Mike Milbury’s a troll, but at least he’s entertaining.

Really, Pierre? “Martin Luther King would like it a lot” if you broke down the stats of the 2nd period?

Pierre was going to commercial, saying “we’ll be back for a 2nd period recap,” when they showed a shot of the MLK Memorial. Pierre said something like “Martin Luther King will like that.” Nothing offensive, just something he probably wishes he didn’t say.

For WM
Bad quality since it was just a picture of my TV but you can see that the arm is mainly hitting his side with a bit on the 2 in the 21 which I would not say is from behind at all.
Still, its the Bruins. We gotta blame them for doing SOMETHING dirty. I mean, they have to right?

Props to WM, who took another look and agrees with what you and I were saying. He just hadn’t had a chance to review. He posted towards the end of the 2P thread.
Besides – WM’s a high school band guy and, with a son in the drumline, I can’t be upset with him at all.

Yeah, I saw. Either I wasn’t looking or I had the legs obstructed until I saw that low view you’re posting the image from. I think Seidenberg’s going for hip on hip, or something, I dunno, but he definitely wasn’t going for anything as malicious as what I was accusing. I just saw what looked like a left arm on the back and a follow through, which is the point of contact for upper bodies, but that’s just Seidenberg trying to keep his balance.

I don’t know, how they played after Laich went off didn’t give me much confidence. They caved instead of sacking up and playing hard. Like usual.

Per #Caps press box PA, Brooks Laich is being evaluated and is questionable to return. If I were a betting man, I’d take the under.

a capital wasteland - art & hockey from washington, d.c.
Announcers just made a good point – Boston’s definitely playing defense first right now, and it’s shutting us down, and the crowd is just dead. This is Boston playing the system I think a lot of people wish the Caps would play and probably are closer to playing now than they ever were with Boudreau, but the Caps are not executing it.
"Don't mind WM...he's an all-around jerk."
When you don’t have your 1C and your 1D your hockey team really has no identity. Even if you want to play firewagon hockey or play great defensive hockey, it doesn’t really matter, there’s really no way you’re going to execute it well.
Soon the Championship with be ours, all ours!
It’s entirely true, but the Caps struggles are compounded because they don’t have a 2C, just seven 3Cs/AHL 1Cs. Caps have been completely outplayed in the corners.
I’m completely on board the trade for Jeff Carter boat, not because of anything more than the teams that are winning cups are the teams that are deep in the middle and on D. Even if Johansson and Kuznetsov pan completely, and Perreault all of a sudden becomes amazing, good centers can still play on the wing. With no center depth, you’re screwed.

No fucking way I do that if I am the Caps. Howson has to get rid of him or have him be a cancer in the LR. If he thinks he is going to get someone to overpay for him he is going to be stuck with him.
What do you give up for Carter, then? He’d be a great fit, especially right now. He’s worth more than a 1st rounder.

I would do a 1st, Schultz and say Eakin. I like Cody but I just get the feeling he is going to end up being a 3rd/4th line guys with no size but hart. And Schultz would help even out the Cap hits a bit and would give them a player who while he has fallen out of favor here is a solid shot blocking D who is still fairly young and has some time on his contract so it isn’t just a rental and he will be happy to play even if it does mean going to Cbus. Has to be better then the press box.
We agree. Too light for the Jackets.

depends on what other teams offer. If he gets offers that are better then sure but I don’t buy for a second he will keep him unless he gets an amazing offer he can’t say no to. Nash is like that but Carter wants out and loses value every poor game he has for the Jackets so it isn’t like they can wait until the off season when his value is lower. Giving them a 1st and Eakin gives them two high value prospects and Schultz gives them a decent player who can help starting today so it isn’t just more rebuilding for a future that will never happen.

May finally be able to get a win against the Bruins this year, now that they know that Tim Thomas will refuse to show up if you just crowd enough left wingers around him.
