Question
Why was Rechlicz put on waivers if he is signed to a two-way contract? I thought if a player had a two-way contract, he could go through the big club and the minors without having to go through waivers. Can anyone help?
According to sk84fun, every contract player has to go through waivers when they are sent down for the first time in a season. Usually, that happens at the beginning of the year. However, because Rechlicz just signed his contract, this was his first waiver process. He won’t have to go through them again if he comes up and goes back down, assuming he isn’t up for more than a certain # of games/length of time.
I think. ;)
Sk8 can clarify if she’s about.
Hadn’t planned to be posting, but I heard my name :)
Most of that is correct. If this was Rechlicz’s first ever NHL contract, he would not need to go through waivers to be assigned to the AHL.
The waiver rules work based on age at signing first NHL contract, number of pro seasons and number of NHL GP. Because he’s been under contract before and the number of pro seasons he has played, he is not waiver exempt.
There are waiver exempt players, even players not on ELCs. For example, Micflikier (and Ford – just traded) is on his first NHL contract. Because of the age (25 or older), it’s not considered an entry level contract (ELC), but a player 25 and older is waiver exempt for the season since it’s his first NHL contract.
Speaking of Rechlicz, I don’t really understand why the Caps called him up in the first place. I knew they had to call someone up since they would only have 11 available forwards for the first two games after the All Star Break (and assumed that particular someone would be Eakin) and would not have surprised to see another forward called up as well. But two extra forwards would be less needed for the Montreal game with Ovi bacdk.

Sounds like Schultzie’s playing again today.

Schultz and Semin for Carter!!!!
Nice guys finish first, but sometimes the season is awfully long.

Doubt they do that. Semin only being signed through this year doesn’t help them in the future which is the only thing they would be looking for. The big question is would we do something like Knuble (just to even up the money), Schultz, and at least one of our firsts?
I was being a bit snarky. Ok – a lot snarky.

If it weren’t for the contract situation of the guys involved, Semin & Schultz going to Columbus would not be a totally horrible deal for Columbus. But, given the fact that Semin would likely not want to sign with Columbus for next year, it would essentially be Carter for Schultz, and renting Semin for a little over a month.
They (Columbus) would probably be okay with Knuble and a 1st rounder, essentially getting Schultz and the first rounder. In fact, it would be attractive. For the Caps, I would hate to part with the first rounder.

We do have too and what I have been reading if after the lotto picks the draft is not very deep. Plus we have plenty of younger guys especially if we add Kunz next season. Also Carter is only 27 so it isn’t like he is old or a rental with his long contract.
That’s the catch. We’re right at that bubble position on how good our pick and/or Colorado’s pick is anticipated to be. I had thought the draft looked reasonably deep until about pick 15 or so but I could be wrong.
Carter’s age is certainly not a problem at all. The main issue is length of contract but it might now look so bad when inflation is factored in.

So we are on the bubble of what might still be a decent player. With Carter we know he is a guy who can get 60-70 points and be a very good second line center THIS YEAR. Where we would be drafting it would probably be a guy who has some good upside but won’t be ready next year most likely. How many more years can we just be building?
On the subject of trying to fill our need at center, how would everybody feel about Olli Jokinen? He’s a UFA next summer with a cap hit of $3 million. CLG is making noise about a rebuild, so maybe they’d be interested in Schultz and a pick/prospect?
Saku Koivu is also UFA next year, with a cap hit of $2.5million. Past that, options look to drop off pretty significantly.

Guess it was too good for Matt P to actually last on the top line when both Ovi and MoJo are around. But no surprise as that’s how they practices.

I can’t help but feel like Matty P on a checking line is a huge misuse of his skillset. I’d have put Laich on the third, MarJo on the second, and left Matty up top, or at least flipped Matty and Brooksie. But then if I knew anything about the game, I’d be in it.
I agree, but the combo isn’t horrible. Chimera’s the speed demon, and I think Matty P can keep up with him. Knuble to crash the net.
In theory…..

Aucoin took rushes as the center of the 4th line in warmup. Somehow I think Halpern still takes a large amount of faceoffs.

Great question.
My guess is that, for critical face-offs, they might put 15 or 21 in there and have them immediately get off the ice. I’ve seen that before.

In case anyone cares, but isn’t watching, Malkin just scored a PPG right before the end of the 1st. 1-0 Pens over Bruins.

Though he ain’t bad in a Hank/Brooksie kind of way, either. ;)
And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I really want the Flyers to make a comeback. Caps can’t afford to fall any farther behind the Devils.

Your sad good luck charm has returned
To hopefully bring the Caps more good luck than he’s currently bringing the Hawks…
Yeah it's been brutal
I’ve increased my wishlist from the Caps to Braden Holtby + Dennis Wideman… But I dont think we have the ammo to get it done
Holtby’s price would be cheaper since he’s not having a very good year. Wideman, on the other hand…….
Rocking the Red for teams on the banks of the Potomac and at the Gateway Arch and Singing the Blues about Hockey.
I'd give up futures
so the Caps probably aren’t a good trade partner
I think the real Wideman question is whether they’re considering trying to keep him.
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
Oh by all means I know he's not gonna be cheap
I really like Wideman and I don’t think the Hawks and Caps make good partners, but I would want Wideman to play with Leddy on the Hawks 2nd pairing… and move Hammr down with Monty
I think a lot of that depends on Green and Carlson. If Green comes back and plays like he is Mike Green and doesn’t get hurt again and Carlson remembers he is John Fucking Carlson the price for the two of them pretty much makes sure we can’t afford him, unless we get rid of Schultz and say Ward and replace them with either rookies or low price vets.
I’d be happy to accept Sharp for Holtby, but then you already know that.

Greetings 2883. But I thought being the negative luck charm for hockey teams was my role. Primary team being the Caps and secondary team being the Blues.

I'm a positive luck charm
I’m just sad because my Hawks are playing like crap. The Blues look much better though man. Our matchup next week won’t be for the faint of emotion.

Both on 2 men advantages
I was watching that one before I switched to this one, the Flyers are being owned… a bad call on a Flyers PP (no call on a trip) lead to a SH goal by Kovalchuk, since then they’ve been off their game, let up a goal inside a 1 sec left in the 1st (right after the SH) and commited a penalty at the end of the first, then a goal immediately on the PP at the start of the 2nd… lol it’s been a mess
Holy Shit – Dima looks awful. Sorry girls.

Wasn’t a great PP, one solid chance, but MTL does have an excellent penalty kill, even if their PK sucks.

Braden Holtby + Dennis Wideman for some picks prospects AND most importantly my continued patronage of the site :-p
We love you, hon, but that’s a bit steep. Besides, if we don’t have Wideman, we won’t have anyone to score when you come by!
Sorry if my sarcasm didn't exactly bleed thru in that post
