The last 8-point game in the NHL was on Michal Repik’s birthday. Not the anniversary of his birth, mind you, but the actual day he was born.

Boston is looking pretty ordinary lately: 4-4-1 in their last nine, and it looks as if Claude Julien has taken to alternating goalies. If Thomas gets the Penguins on Saturday, that probably means Rask again on Sunday.

I suspect the charts from the Montreal series look real similar.
The rope-a-dope. Don’t show this to Hunter. He’ll be feeling all kinds of vindicated.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
In Game 6 the Caps had 54 shots on goal, 17 that missed the net and another 23 that were blocked. That’s 94 shot attempts in 60 minutes, or one every 38 seconds.
They had 18 PP SOGs.
And one goal.
Total.

Mario Lemieux actually had an 8-point game in the playoffs more recently. He had five goals and three assists in a 10-7 win over the Flyers in Game 5 of the second round of the 1989 Stanley Cup playoffs. That would be the last game the Penguins would win that season. The Flyers won Games 6 and 7 to close out the series. And Lemieux was not even the first player to accompish that feat. It was first done the year before by New Jersey’s Patrik Sundstrom, who had three goals and five assists in Game 3 of the second round of the playoffs…
…against the Caps.

Of course, Gagner was taken one pick after the Caps faked like they were taking him and took Karl Alzner. Gagner had as many goals last night as Alzner has in his career.

Here’s another question though.
Is MSL a HOFer? I would say, just by looking at his raw numbers, borderline"yes". Man’s got 5 straight 80+ point seasons, all after turning 30, which is crazy, along with a Ross, Pearson, a Hart, and a Cup. Gives a couple more really “good” years, and it becomes a “most definitely”.
33/35/68 in 63 playoff games too.

AO had five elite years – his first five, in which he ran away with the league goal-scoring lead for that period and accumulated two Harts, a Ross, two Rockets, and three Pearsons. I think he’s got one or two more elite years in him when the pucks bounce his way or he figures out how to change, so call it a push, or slightly better for AO if you’re optimistic.
And as JP points out, AOs elite years were better than MSL’s elite years, which counts for something, I think.

At least three seasons in which he was in the three best players in the league, a Ross, a half a season that saw him finish in the top 15-ish in goal scoring and on a pace to beat even AO’s 65g season, his performance in the playoffs, the whole bit. Cal wasn’t just longevity, though (he revolutionized a position), and The Streak is different from just playing a lot of games.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Basically. Cal was a two-time MVP and had some very elite years at the SS position. Playing 2500 consecutive games is also a totally different kettle of fish than staying in the league for 20 years.

I know Cal is remembered for the streak (which is incredibly impressive on its own) but as J.P. said, he also changed the position completely. If you read up on some of his stats, there’s no question he was a first ballot guy. Fourth best MLB season in history (as measured by WARP), 3000 hits, gold gloves and home runs. Things that people had never seen from a shortstop before.

Didn’t win the Conn Smythe, but yes. Dude’s got lots of hardware.
Another thing about MSL that’s undervalued – he takes very, very few penalties. That doesn’t show up in point totals, but it definitely helps the team win when they spend less time on the PK.

Found it
After Frank Boucher of the New York Rangers won the award seven times within eight years, Lady Byng was so impressed that she gave him the original trophy to keep. Lady Byng then donated a second trophy in 1935–36. When Lady Byng died in 1949 the NHL presented another trophy and changed the official name to the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.3 In 1962, the original trophy was destroyed in a fire at Boucher’s home.6

I should hope not.
I know I’ve told this story before, but on one trip to the HHOF I was in the trophy room (cool room, lobby of an old timey bank, if I’m not mistaken), and walking around looking at all the hardware.
A dad and his kid (maybe eight or nine years old) are doing similarly, and he’s telling his boy what each trophy is for. “That’s the Norris Trophy, for the best defenseman… That’s the Hart for Most Valuable Player” and so on. Then the kid points to the Lady Byng and asks, “What’s that one for?”
“That one’s for the biggest pussy in the League.”

Regarding the wayback machine:
Instead, the Caps allowed 5 goals, including rookie defenseman Anssi Salmela’s first NHL goal, and fired 50 shots on Kari Lehtonen.
I think if the Caps fired 50 shots now, there’d be some sort of tear in the space/time continuum.

Thought it was notable that GMGM went and got another centerman for Hershey on the same day they called up Keith Aucoin.
Maybe one has nothing to do with the other and they made all those other moves so there’s a bit of a plan there. But if it does, that can’t be good news for Nicklas’ recovery.
I wish Coiner good luck and let’s hope he can help out on the power play.

After a recent embarrassing loss to Atlanta, Caps’ bench boss Bruce Boudreau heaped praise upon a single player, dimunitive pivot Keith Aucoin.
“Here’s a 5-foot-7 guy, there’s a reason he’s leading the American league in scoring.” Boudreau said. “He’s160 pounds soaking wet and he’s finishing checks and winning battles against big guys. There’s no reason that our other guys can’t do that.”
For that effort, Aucoin was rewarded with a healthy scratch the next game when Sergei Fedorov returned to the lineup and a subsequent demotion before seeing another NHL game, which was an interesting message to send to a team whose energy level has left a lot to be desired for a while now.
breed16’s comment: “this speaks to one of the (very few) frustrating aspects of Boudreau’s coaching style: a meritless rewards system.”
Ha. Old school, pre-accountability Bruce.

As I noted on teh Twitterz last night, I like the Aucoin recall as a potential short-term spark, especially on the PP. In 09-10, Aucoin had 5 points in first 7 games; in 08-09, 5 in 9; in 07-08, 6 in 11. And he’s dominating the A. Almost literally can’t hurt.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Not only can it not hurt, he’s earned it. If he weren’t a C, he might have been up before Eakin, and rightfully so. What I am interested to see is if his lack of size matches up well against a brutal team like Boston. MP85 sure made them pay for their lack of speed and maneuverability. I hope that this weekend we’re all raging about how the Coiner should have come up earlier.

25-15-22
54-20-42
I put 26 on 2nd line based on DH’s latest line incarnation and the assumption that 54 and 20 are here to play. IMO, better would be:
8-85-90
22-21-28
25-15-42

You could twist my arm to swap 26 for 42, sit 42, and add 83 to fourth line.

But… giving the Habs something extra to worry/think about can’t hurt. If they get obsessed with wondering where 54 is and he’s stapled to the bench, not the worst thing.

This next game, I could see Ovie-MP-Semin, Laich-Mackan-Brouwer, Chimera-Halpern-Hendricks, Knuble-Aucoin-Rechlicz/Ward.
Failure is always an option.
I think the team’s seen enough of MJ90 at center for the time being. I’d be mildly surprised if he wasn’t a wing the rest of the way this year.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
If 90 is at center, no need to recall another center, unless 21 moves to wing. I don’t see 21 moving to wing at this point, so that’s that. 85, 15, and 23 are clear centers.
Nice guys finish first, but sometimes the season is awfully long.

Seems reasonable. What lines would you put out there?

But seriously:
8-85-90
28-23-20
25-15-21
54-26-22
If 26 can’t handle taking the draws for the 6 minutes that line plays you could push down 15 and push up 22, moving 21 to wing.
Please, call me F&B.
Does the team have the sack to sit 42? I’m not sure. Unfortunately, if 42 doesn’t sit, I worry that 22 will.

How about:
8-85-90
28-23-20
25-21-26
54-15-22
Hendricks and Laich have been playing well together, and by putting 15 on the 4th line, he can be used to take defensive draws when the top line is out there (meaning they can align as 8-15-85.)

I admit I’ve got a bad case of fan-love for Aucoin, but I do think a serious case can be made to try him at 1c, especially if 22 is on the wing opposite 8. 22 and 8 would help make up for Aucoin’s lack of muscle, while having a pure shooter and a net-crasher is about the ideal set-up for a pure passer like Aucoin.
(The problem of course is draws. Aucoin has become a lot better with them at the A level, but it remains to be seen whether his veteran guile can offset the freak-of-nature centermen on the N level.)
And why even list a 4th line with Hunter behind the bench? (I say that as criticism of Hunter.)
28-85-90 seem to be developing some chemistry, and I’d like to see if that continues to develop.
A few thoughts/comments about the minor league trades, roster moves, etc.
Hershey had a vet issue, related to the AHL vet rule and how many could play in any one game. From the beginning, the Richmond signing was questionable, IMO, and he was odd man out in terms of the vets when everyone was healthy. Still one extra ‘tweener vet’ with Greentree and King (well, when Aucoin isn’t on recall), but much less of an issue than before with one less vet even with Aucoin in Hershey.
Ford contributed to the team and good luck to him. Had to trade someone to get someone scenario, IMO. From my perspective, he was the quiet one in the Hershey line-up, contributing to the team but never really caught one’s eye. Ford’s playing on his first NHL contract and going to an organization with more opportunity for him at the AHL level. A Phantoms’ perspective on the Ford/Marshall trade. I’ve never been a big Marshall fan, nothing horrible, thinking back I think it’s his skating which has caught my eye because it’s not the greatest, but maybe I’m thinking of a different player?
The other teams, they traded a F for D or a D for F. For Caps/Bears 1F/1D out, 1F/1D in. Of note, Caps got the younger player and a player still on an ELC for this season (RFAs this summer) in both cases, plus Hershey has one less vet on the roster.
About Carman, center who plays on the PK. He had a broken foot to start this season, which is why his games played look low if you look at his stats for the season.
Short-term move for now: Eakin sent down, Aucoin recalled; makes sense to me given Caps recent play and injuries, plus the current coaching staff’s roster utilization during games. 23 players on the Caps active roster.
12 games before the trade deadline on 2/27 3pm. With Rechlicz added and the other 2 NHL contract swaps, Caps have 47 players counting as under contract for right now (Galiev and Anderson not counting due to age and assignment to juniors.) With yesterday’s trades, Caps didn’t add or subtract NHL contracts since all 4 players are on NHL contract.

thanks, just my view of the moves
Also, Marshall plays a stay-at-home’ish willing to play tough game from what I have seen so in that context at the AHL level skating isn’t as important an issue. Richmond liked to push and shove, yeah, even during training camp; I wasn’t a fan so fine with him moving on.
Any thoughts on how this might affect the clear day list at Hershey…about a month away, isn’t it?
If you've read this far...seek help.
Doesn’t change the number of D or F on Hershey roster for now.
Still plenty of time between now and then for Hershey to make moves and for Washington to make moves which impact Hershey.
Yes, AHL CDR lists usually due a week after NHL trade deadline.
I noted last night, I don’t expect Aucoin to stay up that long, but if it was closer to the trade deadline and CDR than that would be a topic of discussion, like it was with Beagle staying up last season.
Jimmy Howard out 2 weeks with a broken finger. Sucks for Detroit.

granted, I heard GMGM say this before Vokoun essentially fell out of the sky and right into GMGM’s lap. When he was talking about never doing NMC’s again, yeah, he probably didn’t expect to get a near-elite vet goalie dirt cheap on a one-year deal.

Curious, has anyone ever seen that confirmed by a local reporter?
I don’t recall anyone reporting an NMC at the time of the contract, but there was a lot going on at the time, especially with focus on the cap hit on a one year deal. Even with McPhee’s view of NMCs, as noted, this is the type of contract where it’s less risky to hand out and makes sense Vokoun would have wanted one, but looking for a source other than capgeek to confirm.

I was thinking that if the Caps do in fact make the playoffs, that their chances of a play-off run might be better than in year’s past. Their current style of play may be more conducive to playoff success as it may frustrate opponents.
I just think it would be funny if the Caps beat out FLA for the three seed and then went on to win the Cup or come out of the East. I honestly would have no words.

If it means they actually play the 4th line, great.
One key as was noted already in the clips, need to draw penalties, giving the Caps power plays.
As to 54, I wonder if his recent comments will impact decision to dress him tomorrow.
Yep, that’s been an ongoing problem and a byproduct of a no-possession/passive system.
The Caps spend less time 5v4 per game than any team in the League other than COL. Now, part of that is obviously “good” in that everyone would rather a PP end before the two-minutes are up as the result of a goal-scored, but they’re opps/game are near the bottom as well.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Without looking at stats, I have a feeling the Caps limited 5v4 time is due a lot more to lack of opportunities than # of PP’s that end before the 2 min mark b/c they score……..

I missed the problem. Who said what or at least, what was said?
Nice guys finish first, but sometimes the season is awfully long.
Follow me on Twitter.
It’s been going on since yesterday, multiple people; cumulative effect type thing.
The last was a tweet stating there was a risk in bringing Aucoin up implying that waivers was a concern right away, which it isn’t. Aucoin is not subject to waivers again (he cleared at the beginning of the season) unless/until he plays in 10 NHL GP or is on the NHL roster for 30 days (cumulative).
Waivers question:
If waivers are required, is the player’s cap hit calculated from the day they are called up or the day they clear?
"You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame" -Denis Lemieux
Coming up, recall day counts as a day on the active roster, going down does not, if the club notifies the player early in day. I think being on the active roster counts toward the cap.
"Money talks. I listen."
To be clear, waivers and re-entry waivers (coming back up, if required) are two different things and the most recent two cases with Aucoin and Eakin did not require waivers.
paraphrasing…see 50.9 in the CBA for exact wording on some of this as it relates to the cap and days on the roster
5pm (NY time) is a key time in the day unless the player practiced or there was a day game.
Aucoin should start counting today; called up late, not on roster as of 5pm, eysterday; didn’t practice with the NHL team and no game last night. FWIW, I’m assuming the Caps had planned to announce Aucoin’s recall today not last night before the twitter news, but doesn’t matter, he shouldn’t count against the cap and in terms of days on the NHL roster should start counting today.
Eakin should count for yesterday since he practiced with the team before being sent down.
Those examples don’t involve waivers. As it relates to re-entry waivers, a player on re-entry waivers cannot be placed on the NHL team’s active roster until they clear re-entry so they would start counting once they cleared, that is my understanding, but I will confirm.

As it relates to the Rechlicz waivers news below, is a player considered still to be on an active roster until they have cleared? (Meaning Caps are at 23 until Rechlicz clears)
"You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame" -Denis Lemieux
I’m 98.5% sure the answer is yes. On the roster until noon tomorrow.
Note, it’s an issue when trades are made, etc., teams want the flexibility to be able to send a player down if bringing in a player.
Minor trade: @stevezipay: Breaking: NYR trade Erik Christensen to Wild for F Casey Wellman, who’s going to AHL
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
In spurts, Wellman has played well for the Wild. IIRC, he hurt his wrist/hand last time he was up. Going to be interesting to see how he does in the NYR organization.
Note, Hershey plays Connecticut (NYR AHL affiliate) Saturday night in Hershey so I’d expect Wellman will play against Hershey this weekend, along with Bouchard’s return to Hershey.
For a guy like him — probably in his late 20s — do you just go with it, and just play out your career as a wanderer? Or do you try and go to Europe and sign a long-term deal with some SEL or KHL team?
Remember when people thought the Pens gave up too much for Hossa when they dealt Christensen, Armstrong and Angelo Esposito for him?

Okay….here’s one from Bleacher Report (lulz)
Here’s one from TheHockeyWriters
Another one here from SBNation Pittsburgh in 2011 that concludes the trade was “worth it” because Dupuis was re-signed.
Part of why Shero pulled the trigger on the deal was that he felt the Penguins could re-sign Hossa in the offseason. However, when Hossa ended up signing with Detroit, the question quickly became (almost to the point of meme status on message boards), “Was the trade worth it?”
Three years later, I can now definitively say, “Yes, it was worth it.”

He did have that injury. But the way his career was going, I’m not sure an even 100%-healthy Esposito is/will be ready for the NHL. From everything I hear, he’s just lazy. I mean, he’ll be 23 this month, a first-round pick, and he was in the ECHL this year.
I’m leery of Galchenyuk for that reason. Lottery talent, but re-constructed knee at that age (and missing that much development time) is a massive red flag.

I haven’t heard of any work ethic issues, and he is skating, but missing that much development time probably doesn’t help his overall ceiling. If he’s still available and the Caps are picking at 10-15, then by all means, select the guy with 1C upside and a strong two-way game. Just be aware that there’s significant projection risk and he may not ever reach that upside.

Depending on salary, I’d take a flyer on Christensen. He’s dynamite in the shootout and that’s actually worth a fair number of standings points if you don’t have a lot of those guys already (and the Caps definitely don’t). He can’t be worse than the stiffs they’re rolling out as part of the 4th line for three minutes on a nightly basis and he provides some upside? Yes, sign me up.

It’s good reasoning. The Wild are playing a pretty low-event brand of hockey, if I recall correctly, which means that they’d likely see more ties and hence more shootouts. A guy that converts ~50% of the time versus ~33% of the time might mean an extra two or three points in the standings.

So while this season has thus far shown why such a sentiment is NOT faultless, now is as good a time as any to cling to it as an iron-clad truism. Caps’ fans should not boast to see the team’s future, to predict their imminent successes or failures. It is foolhardy and a road to "I-told-you-so’s" and red ears.
What they should do is keep the faith, knowing full well that the season still holds for the Caps 30 games, a trade deadline, and two of the team’s best players’ endeavors to return to the ice.

Ok, more waiver info. Rechlicz is on waivers because up until now he has not cleared waivers this season. Because he just signed his NHL contract for this season and this is the first time he has been assigned to Hershey this season while on an NHL contract.
Rechlicz’ contract status and years of pro hockey; this is his 5th season as a pro, IIRC (and his ELC was a previous contract with the NYI so it’s not his first NHL contract year.)
Funny if the Habs claim him and put him in the lineup tomorrow.

I am sorry to bring this up again, but I still don’t understand. What “value” – if any – did the Caps lose with the Rechlicz contract fiasco? That is, could GMGM have used any of these ‘resources’ (cash) as part of a trade package?
There was a minimum cash (cap hit) output. Only issue is number of pro contracts. GMGM probably figured he wasn’t going to add many contracts between now and July when his contract is up.

Joel Rechlicz on waivers because he signed entry-level deal with Islanders in 2008. Also would’ve needed it because he signed mid-year.
No, it has nothing to do with signing mid-year. If this was his first NHL contract and he was waiver exempt, a mid-year signing wouldn’t impact waivers, because he was playing in North America in the minors. The mid-season waiver rule relates to players playing overseas after the NHL regular season starts.
waivers is not something people should be attempting to explain on twitter. cannot be done in 140 characters.
Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION! Season Pledge total--$1210.35!
You are correct, I’ve said the same in the past.
And he wasn’t referring to the rule I was thinking he was; he was noting what I noted earlier here that he requires waivers because he was just signed now and needs waivers to be sent down since he hasn’t cleared before this season.
I figured he was attempting (ATTEMPTING) to explain that Rechlicz was on waivers because he was being assigned to Hershey for the first time this season, just like all the other non-ELC guys with NHL contracts have to pass through waivers to go to Hershey at the start of the season. Rechlicz’s situation being he didn’t sign an NHL contract until mid-season. But, obviously, that’s a lot of info to cram into a tweet.
watch, I’m sure I mucked something up in attempting to explain why Rechlicz was on waivers today :)
Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION! Season Pledge total--$1210.35!

Gonna say that Rechlicz was related to one thing and one thing only: Downie’s bout with Alzner in the prior game with the Bolts.
Patron saint of quality footwear.
Sad, if true. As discussed the previous two days, I wish our management team were focused more on puck possession, the power play, Fenwick, etc. etc. which is where our real issues are. Maybe Brouwer or Ersk (i.e. not Karl or Hendy) can rearrange Bourque’s nose but, if not, let’s just hustle and win.
Was that worth burning a contract on? Especially for a team that probably wants to make at least one move towards the deadline? I’m just so confused by this, the handling of Schultz, the handling of Kundratek, Erskine, Eakin, Aucoin, etc.
Why is a developing player like Eakin playing five shifts a night in WSH instead of sowing his oats in HER? Why was Kundratek getting NHL minutes instead of guys that can actually play in the NHL, like Schultz, or Erskine in spells? Why was the team burning a contract and salary cap dollars to do that?
Why is a guy like Joel Ward not playing on the PK? His entire value is on the defensive side of the puck and eating harder minutes so that your skill guys can take advantage of the scrubs. I don’t get it.

They’re only at 47 contracts right now. Very unlikely the 50-K limit is going to prevent them from doing anything.
Agreed on all the rest, though, you know that (though the cap dollars don’t matter, since the team has been well into LTIR all year).
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Adding extra contracts now might not hurt this year (at 47 it probably won’t), but it might hurt next year, or the year after.
Good call on the LTIR stuff, but I still don’t like burning actual dollars when the team isn’t swimming in cash, a la the Maple Leafs or the Habs. Not that a half-dozen game checks for Kundratek and two for Rechlicz is going to break the bank, but it’s the principle. Just like Steckel and Erskine and Poti didn’t look like terrible overpays at the time, but cumulatively, they’re the difference between having Matt Hendricks on your 4th line and Marcel Goc.

Let’s do a thought exercise: How about we assume that there’s a shutdown line that’s going to get hard-matched to the other teams’ first lines.
The current, healthy (humor me), roster looks something like
8/19/20
42/21/25
90/15/28
26/(83/85/50)/22
Let’s say that you get Goc and you want him as your hard minutes C.
The lines look more like:
8/19/20
42/Goc/21
90/15/28
25/(85/26/83/50)/(22/26/50).
Those lines look a lot better to me, and I think those lines are a move or two away from looking a lot better than that. The current lines, even with a healthy roster, are hard to envision a winning roster with.

I think there’s a non-zero chance that McPhee wants to take on four contracts between here and Feb 28th. High chance? No. Probably in the low single digits. But why potentially bind your hands for even that small chance?

Yeah, it makes no sense for a number of reasons (though I still say the odds of them taking on four Ks without moving at least one out is incredibly small).
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Not as many candidates as some years, especially with the recent trades:
- Paquette (but signed for next year)
- Sjogren (signed for next year)
- King?
- Stevenson (signed for next year)
Not sure they’d want to give up the D depth in Hershey, but when healthy on D, Miskovic is the one who is typically odd man out.
Ditto on the confused part here.
I agree with you on all the points you raise.
Just pointing out why I thought Rechlisz spent a few days on the roster. As for whether it was worth burning a roster spot, it comes down to whether his presence averted another Downie/Alzner fight. If it did, then it was worth it. If not, then probably not. Pretty hard to prove a negative, so we’ll likely never know.

I actually think the Aucoin recall is the first (NHL) move they’ve made that’s made sense in a long time. Desperate? Sure. But at least it theoretically addresses something that needs to be addressed (namely playmaking center, especially for the PP).

Ok. Granted, Alzner doesn’t fight. But, he was fine and there was no foreseeable sequel with Downie.
That requires a goon presence, but getting a crack at the guy who sidelined our best player doesn’t??
But if it’s that big a deal, you don’t give Bourque the choice.
And Downie’s not fighting Rechlicz.

I think about death every day.
I’ll tell you. I want to live now more than I’ve ever wanted to live before, because I’ve struggled with depression most of my life, and sometimes death looked better than living. And now, where I’m at, I want to live. And it always scares me because sometimes you—it’s like when you go, be careful what you ask for, be careful what you pray for. It’s like sometimes in life, when you’ve finally got things figured out, things change. And I’m kind of afraid of that. I’m kind of figuring things out now. I’m getting everything under control, and that scares me because as soon as you do that, God’s going to say, OK, come on [laughs]. But then I always think, no, God, you had me here. I’m walking around with a bullet in my head and a scar on my neck. There’s a reason. I think you want me to grow old and help people and be a wise old man.

It kinda looks like Huntsy just cut one, and Evason got a whiff while he was talking to the ref.

And meanwhile, where’s that image breaking down the different moods of Dale Hunter? This one would be “incredulous.”

Anyone there today? Did they do the version of the shootout game where lose an item every time you miss or did they change up lines/jerseys at one point?
Don’t they usually at least wear long sleeves under the pads? Seems like the elbow is a little vulnerable…

That’s why my eyebrows were raised. I wonder if any of it has to do with the rash of injuries among the top draft stock? Or if someone’s just trying to mess with everyone’s heads.
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
wasn’t it being compared to the 2003 draft class recently?
Pledge Drive 2011-2012: CARSON KOLZIG FOUNDATION! Season Pledge total--$1210.35!
Honestly, that’s what i had been hearing for months now. I just dont really know what defines a “deep” draft class. # of kids from the OHL? # of kids on WJC rosters? How well there going to do in the NHL?
In the end, i feel like a lot of these predictions are irrelevant due to the complex, unknown nature of the development of any one hockey player.
Soon the Championship with be ours, all ours!
Lot of injuries, and I think overall the draft-eligibles at the WJCs were underwhelming.
You perhaps knew me better as "Your Nation's Capital." Same great commentary, now with 100% more transparency!
I think that’s really it. The draft is deep, but a lot of the guys on the medium-high end carry more injury risk than perhaps GMs would like.
"You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame" -Denis Lemieux
I don’t think that’s it so much as the projected lot from where playoff teams will pick—16 to 30—isn’t particularly highly regarded. The top 10-15 or so is. Beyond that I don’t think there’s been as much separation or huge jumps in development as many would hope. Still some key months ahead for that to change, of course.
Per Aucoin…“with Patick McNeill who is one of the better offensive defensive in the league who can move the puck around..”
Look, I realize this is an old topic (but for me one without a real conclusion…or me being dismissive).
Just curios why has P. McNeill never been given a shot in Wsh (and I do not count his call up when I saw on the precap ice in ANA in Feb 11…ahh..those were the days with Bruce).
I know Vogs is a proponent of Patty and I also question why has the kid never been given a shot (is Kundrátek THAT much ahead of the dude?)
