very pleased with that start, go caps go!
hopefully it’s the start of a nice streak of strongly played games.
I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude.
Nice start, but the game seems to have evened up since then. Go for the kill, Caps!!
Failure is always an option.
It seems to me the Leafs are getting very good positioning in the Caps zone, but Neuvy is locked in pretty well, and a lot of passes are just missing. But if the Leafs keep it up, I think that this game could be tied sooner rather than later.

Fairly typical of these Caps. Get a lead, sit back and play to protect. I much prefer to see them try and score more goals.

I’ll still take this over ‘let the other team get the lead and assume we can come from behind like we used to do two years ago’ — because that really hasn’t been working.

Goalie Guild just put out an interesting series of tweets on things he sees Neuvy doing differently this game than in late January.
Neuvirth: Crouch more pronounced w/ better bend at the waist. Sets his shoulders a little lower but more powerful moving in and out of bfly
Looks like his center of gravity is a bit lower as a result. Might see him be a bit more centered, controlled, & bit more balanced overall.
Not easy to tell since Neuvirth is already a fairly quiet and calm bfly goalie. Just my thoughts. Seems like he’s been watching some video!
He does seem to be playing better the last few games than previously – Goalie Guild might have a point.
Failure is always an option.
I’m becoming more convinced that the Caps need to hire a full time shrink.
They have multiple games where they look like absolute crap…absolutely don’t show up and play so far below their capabilities it drives your to drink.
How is it possible for a team to look so terrible, and then just turn it around. Fragile, fragile team.
How did Ales Hemsky get 5mil/yr???

It makes sense for the Oilers, due to all the ELC’s they have. They need to stay above the cap floor somehow, right?
Failure is always an option.
It’s more than ELCs; I do think a veteran player willing to stay in Edmonton is a big factor and Hemsky (when healthy) still contributes. It’s high, but I think the Edmonton-factor combined with it only being a 2 year contract are big factors in why it’s 5M per year.
I was a bit surprised at first, but then I looked at their situation and when the contract ends, and it makes sense. It should be ending right around when all those ELC’s do, which makes sense for Edmonton. It might be more than Hemsky deserves, but I can’t see it hurting Edmonton. If Hemsky plays up to his potential, it could be a steal.
Failure is always an option.
Yes, that aspect of the ELCs is true; agree, the 2 years is a big factor, he’s only 28yo. Some of the talking heads on twitter last night were amusing debating this contract. If Edmonton has to overpay to get most UFAs to go there, makes more sense to keep the known player who wants to stay.
It’s also Hemsky’s salary for this season even if his cap hit is a little lower on this contract.
funnist thing I’ve heard in a long, long time. I hope it happens. #whatajoke

Of course, Malkin has never been under the microscope like Ovie. Malkin has a shit season or completely disappears for a couple playoff rounds and it’s not a major story in two countries. Malkin makes dirty hits, slewfoots a guy or ten, and uses his stick to carve guys up with zero repercussions.
I’d love to see how Malkin would have fared with the same level of obsessive attention, particularly the negative attention, Ovechkin has had to deal with.

This game is showing how valuable a guy like Halpern is. Even without the goal, he’s a huge part of our PK when he’s winning FOs.
Warning: I started watching hockey in 2007. So, yeah.
I’d love for the caps to re-sign him for another season. He’s very inexpensive and he does what is needed.
Failure is always an option.

Does anyone else find this hipster guitar boy fantasy Siri commercial annoying?
There's always more to learn about Hockey.
YES. the kid is like 16 and think’s he’s fucking amazing at guitar. also I hate the other one, “remind me to do this again” yeah, I’m sure you’ll need your phone to remind you about the time you drove across the country because it was too cold.

During the intermission, check out the Siri Argument. Too funny.

Should have been interference called. Aucoin blocked. I hate when that doesn’t get called. Like hundreds of times.

THIS. That initial pass is what sets the whole play up, great plays by Johannson to get the pass through and Coiner to go skate to stick for the finish.

Funny. On twitter, Alan May’s been calling the ACC “VC North”. Maybe the team feels the same way.

You see, tiny aliens forced their way inside Ovechkin and Company’s brains and stole their talent because they needed it for a hockey game against Bugs Bunny.

I saw on tv how he wasn’t really skating. He’s horrible, lazy, skipped out on the All-Star game, drinks blood, eat kittens and gets fat doing it.

I liked it ok until I realized how relatively recent it was. Then its cheesiness is less automatically forgiveable.
But I still like cheese occasionally. Top cheese, particularly.
Thank goodness Hank Williams said some stupid things about Obama or we’d have to suffer his horrible football song too.

Man, I hate the Capitals. I have been extremely vocal about how the Caps need to be sellers and be responsible and deal off some of their assets for the future… and then they do this! So frustrating. I wonder what GMGM is thinking now.
